Encounter breaks out in South Kashmir’s Kokernag

SRINAGAR: An encounter has erupted between terrorists and security forces in the Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

An official informed The New Indian that on Saturday, the Indian Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), along with the 164 Battalion of the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated a joint cordon and search operation in the Rayilmund area of Kokernag, Anantnag.

During the operation, terrorists, who were hiding, opened fire on the security forces, leading to an encounter, the official said.

Two to three terrorists are believed to be cornered. One Army personnel has sustained critical injuries. Further details are awaited.
