NEW DELHI: In a campaign that has captured national attention, Elon Musk has embarked on an ambitious giveaway through his super PAC, awarding $1 million daily to selected registered voters in battleground states. This initiative, set to continue until the U.S. presidential election on November 5, requires participants to sign a petition supporting free speech and gun rights to qualify. With only a few days left, the program has produced 14 winners, each becoming an overnight millionaire.

The winners represent diverse states, including Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Despite Musk’s insistence on the random selection of winners, patterns in the winners’ profiles have drawn scrutiny, with most winners reportedly leaning Republican or openly supporting conservative values on social media.

The initiative has already made several ordinary Americans into millionaires as Musk champions free speech and gun rights while showing support for Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. Here’s a closer look at the winners so far:

Musk’s initiative has stirred excitement and controversy alike, as each winner represents a vote of confidence for Constitutional rights in the lead-up to the 2024 election. Musk has pledged to continue this daily giveaway until the election.

The political alignment of winners has fueled debate. Nine of the 14 are registered Republicans, with four remaining from states where party registration isn’t public, though they frequently express conservative views. No registered Democrats have reportedly won the contest, which has raised questions, especially as Democrats speculate about a potential bias. Musk’s super PAC contests these claims, emphasizing that any registered voter in key states is eligible regardless of political affiliation.

However, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has filed a lawsuit, questioning the randomness of the selection and likening the giveaway to an “illegal lottery.” Krasner’s concerns emerged after two winners in Pennsylvania were revealed at Musk’s events in apparent proximity to his rallies, further sparking questions of transparency.

The Department of Justice has also issued a warning, cautioning that financial incentives tied to voter registration could be interpreted as a breach of federal law. Despite the legal controversies, Musk remains steadfast, dismissing allegations and maintaining that the contest advocates constitutional rights. He contributed over $118 million to the super PAC, with an additional $44 million infusion in October alone, intensifying his influence on the campaign trail.
