NEW DELHI: Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), has stirred controversy again by following a prominent individual known for funding organizations with the explicit goal of dismantling the platform. Entrepreneur Mario Nawfal highlighted the move in a post on X, stating, “Talk about reaching across the aisle… Elon is now following the guy who funds organizations with the explicit agenda to ‘Kill Twitter.’ Respect.”

The decision has sparked widespread debate, with many trying to decode Musk’s intentions. Critics and supporters alike are weighing in on whether this is a gesture of reconciliation, a strategic move, or simply another example of Musk’s unpredictable nature.

“This is classic Elon,” said social media analyst Laura Thompson. “He thrives on challenging norms and creating narratives that keep everyone talking about him and his platform. Following someone funding anti-Twitter initiatives is bold, but it fits his brand.”

Some users on X praised Musk’s apparent willingness to engage with critics. “This is why I admire Elon,” one user wrote. “He doesn’t hide from the opposition. He confronts it, even if it means following his harshest critics.” Another commented, “It’s a power move—he’s basically saying, ‘I see you, and I’m not afraid of you.’”

Others, however, were less charitable in their interpretation. “This is performative at best,” said one commenter. “If Musk were serious about bridging divides, he’d address the real concerns people have about X’s direction.” Another critique read, “How can you take someone seriously who’s engaging with those actively trying to kill the platform? It’s baffling.”

Musk himself has not directly addressed the reasons behind the following, but his past comments on engaging with opponents offer some clues. “If you’re not willing to have a dialogue with those who disagree with you, you’re not serious about progress,” Musk said in a 2023 interview.
