NEW DELHI: Elon Musk has publicly criticized Nigel Farage, calling for his replacement as leader of Reform UK. In a post on his social media platform X, Musk stated that Farage “doesn’t have what it takes” to lead the party, though he did not elaborate on the reasons behind his remark.

Farage, however, suggested that Musk’s comment stemmed from a disagreement over the latter’s support for far-right activist Tommy Robinson. Farage made it clear he would not compromise his principles, especially regarding Robinson’s involvement with Reform UK. Musk, in response, reiterated his call to “Free Tommy Robinson now.”

This dispute over Robinson, currently imprisoned for contempt of court, appears to have strained their previously friendly relationship. Farage, who had previously praised Musk as a “hero,” emphasized that Musk’s views on Robinson did not alter his own stance on leadership matters.

In a tweet posted on January 5, 2025, Farage responded, saying, “Well, this is a surprise! Elon is a remarkable individual but on this, I am afraid I disagree. My view remains that Tommy Robinson is not right for Reform and I never sell out my principles.”

The controversy highlights the complex dynamics between Musk, Farage, and their shared political affiliations, particularly concerning their ideological differences. Farage, who founded Reform UK in 2018, maintains that his commitment to the party’s values remains unwavering, despite pressures from his high-profile supporters.

The future of Farage’s leadership and Musk’s influence on Reform UK could become clearer in upcoming discussions between the two, including a meeting scheduled during President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
