NEW DELHI: A woman passenger died after coming in contact with an open wire lying on the road during the rain at New Delhi railway station.

The woman, identified as Sakshi Ahuja, was going to catch the Vande Bharat Express for Chandigarh. She was travelling with her two children and other family members.

The incident happened at around 4.45 am when Sakshi was heading to Chandigarh for summer vacation. She was accompanied by seven of her family members, including two children. She was walking alone ahead of her family members outside the New Delhi Railway Station.

According to the Delhi Police, information regarding a lady getting an electric shock was received by the police. The incident occurred on the Paharganj side of the New Delhi Railway Station, towards platform number one.

The police reached the spot and found Sakshi lying unconscious. She was immediately taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

After the incident, Sakshi’s sister, Madhvi Chopra, filed a complaint alleging negligence by the concerned authority. A case under Sections 287, 304-A of the IPC was registered and further investigation was started, the police said.

Citing a preliminary investigation, CPRO (northern railways) Deepak Kumar said, “It appears that there was current leakage from the cable due to insulation failure and there is no deficiency in the working system of the Railways.”
