NEW DELHI: In a unique initiative to enhance voter enthusiasm, the Election Commission transformed a polling centre in Vikaspuri into an engaging and interactive space. At the A-Block Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, the theme โFrom Chandrayaan to Elections: Indiaโs Journeyโ was brought to life with innovative arrangements, making the polling experience memorable and exciting.
Returning Officer and SDM Nitin Shakya of Tilak Nagar Assembly constituency shared that the polling booth featured astronauts, bioscopes, satellite broadcasts, and 3D virtual reality experiences. Additionally, college students organized tricolour face-painting activities to add to the festive atmosphere. Assistant Returning Officer Manjeet Solanki explained that the aim was to eliminate voter apathy and turn voting into a cherished experience.
To honour elderly voters, young volunteers dressed as astronauts offered them roses and assisted them in reaching the booths. Meanwhile, younger voters enjoyed the nostalgic charm of bioscopes with their grandparents, reminiscing about how they used to pay a small fee to watch these shows during their childhood.
The efforts of the Election Commission bore fruit on Wednesday, as a significant number of voters turned out to cast their ballots. West District Magistrate and IAS officer Dr Kinny Singh spearheaded the initiative, setting up bioscopes outside polling booths to attract voters. The move was met with enthusiasm, especially by children accompanying their parents.
Dr. Singh herself cast her vote early, fulfilling her democratic duty, and then worked tirelessly to encourage maximum voter turnout. She highlighted that several polling centres in the Patel Nagar Assembly constituency showcased symbols of science, innovation, and Indian culture. Students of Rajdhani College contributed by displaying spacecraft models, and live astronauts were stationed to assist voters.
The initiative not only increased voter participation but also made the process enjoyable, blending technology, culture, and nostalgia seamlessly.
