Three people have been arrested for allegedly killing a 54-year-old woman over a monetary dispute in Mangolpuri area of Delhi. Her body was buried in a graveyard, which has now been exhumed, police said on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Mobin, Rehan and Naveen – all family friends of the victim.
The Delhi Police have also arrested the graveyard’s caretaker Sayyad Ali for allowing the burial at the night. Ali allegedly took ₹5000 for not making any entry into the register.
On January 2, policemen at Mangolpuri police station were informed that Meena Wadhwan had been missing from her residence in Avantika Enclave. Policemen scanned relevant CCTV footages but did not find any clue, and registered a case under 365 (abduction) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on January 7.
During the investigation, the police found the location of the last two callers with the victim.
During the investigation, police found the location of the last two callers matched with that of the victim. On this basis, Mobin was questioned but it did not elicit any positive result.
However, another suspect, Naveen confessed his involvement and revealed that he and Mobin knew Wadhwans for five years and killed her over a dispute over a monetary transaction at Mobin’s house located at Mangeram Park in Mangolpuri on the intervening night of January 2 and 3.
On Wednesday, he also told another person named Rehan was also present with them during the commission of the crime. Naveen earlier moved a bail application in the case.
After killing the elderly woman, they took her body to a nearby graveyard in an auto rickshaw and bribed the caretaker to allow them to bury her without any documentation.
According to the police, the victim was a micro financer in the business of distributing loans to hawkers and small-time traders in West Delhi on a daily basis. The accused are known to every member of the Wadhwan family.
The police have also recovered the auto-rickshaw used in the offence. After following due procedure, the body of the deceased was exhumed and sent to the mortuary for post-mortem.
