New Delhi: A 70-year-old couple was discovered murdered in their residence in Delhiโs Kohat Enclave on Tuesday, with police naming their missing domestic worker as the prime suspect. The victims, identified as Mohinder Singh and his wife Dilraj Kaur, were found strangled in separate rooms of their third-floor home, sparking a city-wide manhunt for the absconding helper.
The gruesome discovery was made by the coupleโs son, who resides nearby, after he visited their home and found them unresponsive. Authorities estimate the murders occurred 2โ3 days prior. Preliminary investigations suggest strangulation as the cause of death, with no signs of forced entry into the house, pointing to the involvement of someone familiar with the household.
โThe domestic help, who has been missing since the incident, is the key suspect. We are probing all angles, including robbery, and are examining whether valuables were stolen,โ said a senior Delhi Police official. Forensic teams scoured the crime scene for evidence, while CCTV footage from the vicinity is being analyzed to trace the suspectโs movements.
Police are also delving into the helperโs employment history and conducting background checks, alongside questioning neighbors and other staff in the building. The case has ignited concerns among locals about domestic worker safety, with residents demanding stricter verification protocols.
โThis is a horrific incident. We urge authorities to ensure thorough background checks for domestic workers to prevent such crimes,โ said a neighbor.
