NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched an investigation into an alleged extortion racket within Invest UP, focusing on suspended IAS officer Abhishek Prakash. The probe centers on accusations of soliciting commissions for approving solar plant projects.
The ED is preparing to file a money laundering case based on an FIR registered at Gomti Nagar police station.
The controversy erupted when a solar energy equipment company accused intermediaries of demanding bribes for project approvals. The Uttar Pradesh government responded by suspending Abhishek Prakash, the CEO of Invest UP and a senior IAS officer.
Authorities arrested middleman Nikant Jain, who allegedly acted on behalf of senior officials to solicit commissions. โ

The EDโs investigation aims to uncover the extent of the commission racket within Invest UP. Officials are scrutinizing Jainโs companies to trace financial transactions and identify other potential beneficiaries.
Additionally, there are allegations that Prakash amassed assets beyond his known income sources, prompting further scrutiny. โ
Review of Past Decisions
The probe extends to decisions made during Prakashโs tenure as CEO of Invest UP. Authorities are examining the evaluation committee meetings, particularly focusing on investment proposals that were rejected, to determine if any undue advantages were granted or if any proposals were unjustly dismissed.
The ED plans to collaborate with the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, Vigilance Department, and the Appointments Department to gather necessary documents and evidence. This coordinated effort aims to build a comprehensive case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). โ
