NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented substantial evidence of cash transactions, supported by CDs and multiple witnesses, during the bail hearing for AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh. Singh is currently under arrest in connection with a PMLA case related to the Delhi Excise Policy Scam.
The ED argued that Singh’s arrest should not solely rely on FIR and witness statements. According to the ED, Sarvesh Mishra procured money from a Punjab-based businessman as instructed by Sanjay Singh. “Sarvesh Mishra took money from a Punjab-based businessman at the instruction of Sanjay Singh. We have also learned that Singh was involved in formulating and receiving a kickback for Delhi Excise Policy. Sameer Mahendru also paid Rs 3 crore which was corroborated by Dinesh Arora,” the ED claimed.

Indosprit Distribution was alleged to have paid Rs 2 crore in cash in August 2021, as narrated by Dinesh Arora in his 164 CrPC statement. The ED further contended that the witness initially refrained from naming powerful individuals like former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Gautam Malhotra out of fear. However, after assurance of protection, the witness revealed their names.
During searches, confidential documents were reportedly uncovered at Singh’s residence, leading the ED to allege that a low-level employee of the ED might have been in contact with Singh. The agency deemed this a serious matter, asserting that Singh, using his influence, managed to obtain ED’s documents and was monitoring the agency through a low-level ED employee.

“This is a serious matter as Singh somehow managed to get ED’s documents using his power. He was keeping an eye on ED through a low-level ED employee,” The ED alleged.
The court, after hearing the ED’s arguments, has set December 12 as the next date of hearing. On the scheduled date, Singh’s counsel will respond to the allegations put forth by the ED.
Meanwhile, there is a chance that Sanjay Singh could face expulsion from the Rajya Sabha on Monday, similar to the situation experienced by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra.
