NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India has announced the dates of the Lok Sabha elections for 2024, beginning April 19. The elections will be completed in seven phases.
The second phase will begin on April 26, encompassing pivotal states like Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. May 7 marks the third phase, with a total of 12 states poised to participate in the democratic spectacle.
May 13 heralds the fourth phase, with Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha among the states to go into polls in this phase. As the electoral saga progresses, May 20 emerges as a pivotal juncture, with 49 constituencies bracing for the electoral showdown, alongside significant states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The penultimate phase, scheduled for May 26 will witness the electoral fervor engulfing 57 constituencies. The denouement, comprising the seventh phase, arrives on June 1, with Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Odisha poised to cast their votes in the final phase of polling.
22 states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala, will witness Lok Sabha polls on a single day.
Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tripura, and Manipur will have polls in two phases while Chhattisgarh and Assam will witness polling in three phases.

Meanwhile, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand are poised for four phases of polling, while Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir brace for five phases.
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal emerge as the epicenters of electoral intensity, slated for a comprehensive seven-phase electoral extravaganza.
The dates were announced in a televised live conference held on Saturday by the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar.
The election will be held accross seven phases, spanning the months of April and May, culminating in the announcement of results on June 4.
