NEW DELHI : Jhalawar-Baran Lok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan remains a stronghold for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As of the latest trends in the 2024 elections, BJP candidate Dushyant Singh is leading by 369,508 votes against Urmila Jain ‘Bhaya’ from the Indian National Congress (INC).
Voting took place on April 26 during the second phase of the elections. The constituency, known for its low literacy rate of 54.57%, consists of eight legislative assemblies: Anta, Kishanganj, Baran-Atru, Chhabra, Dag, Jhalrapatan, Khanpur, and Manohar Thana.
Dushyant Singh, the son of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and grandson of Vijayaraje Scindia, has a long history in this constituency. He joined the BJP in 2003, following in his family’s political footsteps, and won his first election in 2004. Despite a Congress wave in 2009, Singh secured his seat, continuing to win in 2014 and 2019 with significant margins.
During his tenure, Singh has focused on developing infrastructure, including roads, city facilities, railways, and the Kolana Airport in Jhalawar. His efforts have contributed to the region’s development, making him a popular leader among voters.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections recorded a voter turnout of 69.71%. Historically, the BJP has dominated this constituency, winning eight out of 16 elections up to 2014 and maintaining control since 1989. Vasundhara Raje represented the constituency from 1989 to 1999 before moving to state politics, after which Dushyant Singh continued the family legacy.
In the 2019 elections, Dushyant Singh won with 887,017 votes, defeating INC’s Pramod Sharma by a margin of 453,745 votes. Similarly, in 2014, Singh secured 676,022 votes, with a margin of 281,508 votes over INC’s Pramod Bhaya.

As counting progresses, Dushyant Singh’s substantial lead indicates a continued BJP stronghold in Jhalawar-Baran.
