NEW DELHI: Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release, “Dunki,” showcased resilience at the box office, raking in Rs 9.25 crore on the first day of the year.

The film premiered on December 21 and made a single-digit performance take a turn, maintaining an overall occupancy of 30.8 per cent on new year’s day.

Prominent cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, and Bengaluru stood out with the highest number of shows during the festive season, contributing to the film’s success.

The ‘Dunki’ film directed by Rajkumar Hirani features a stellar cast, including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover. Despite Shah Rukh Khan’s final release in 2023, the movie has continued to captivate Indian audiences, drawing them to theatres during the holiday season.

The global appeal of ‘Dunki’ has been equally impressive, with the film maintaining a strong presence worldwide. The production team anticipates the film’s entry into the esteemed Rs 400 crore club at the international box office.

Red Chillies Entertainment, JIO Studios, and Rajkumar Hirani Films jointly presented this cinematic gem, and their official X account shared a poster proclaiming the film’s global success, with a staggering Rs 380.6 crore worldwide gross box office collection.

‘Dunki’ unfolds a heartwarming tale of four friends – Manu, Sukhi, Buggu, and Balli – shedding light on the challenges of “donkey flight,” an illegal immigration technique. The friends embark on an arduous yet life-changing journey, aspiring to settle down in London for a better life. Shah Rukh Khan, portraying the character Hardy, plays a pivotal role in their rescue.
