Driver of Force Gurkha arrested by police in Rajendra Nagar incident

New Delhi: In a significant development, Delhi Police on Monday arrested the driver of a Force Gurkha vehicle, along with four others, in connection with a tragic incident at Rau’s Academy in Rajendra Nagar. The driver has been charged with negligent driving that led to the destruction of the academy’s door, causing severe waterlogging in the basement and resulting in the drowning deaths of three students.

The incident occurred following heavy rainfall on Saturday evening, which caused extensive waterlogging in the capital. The students, who were preparing for the UPSC exam at Rau’s Academy, were inside the basement when the Force Gurkha sped past the academy, creating a massive wave that broke through the door and main gate. Eyewitnesses reported that the force of the water surged into the basement through the staircase, leading to the tragic outcome.

We are committed to ensuring strict action against all those involved in the case,” stated DCP Central, Harshavardhan.

The New Indian obtained exclusive footage of the incident, showing the gate intact for the first five seconds before being swept away by the force of the water. This footage was crucial in identifying the cause of the basement flooding.

An FIR has been lodged, and Delhi Police are continuing their investigation into the matter to ensure accountability and prevent such tragedies in the future.
