Don’t know why PM is quiet on his retirement at 75, others spoke for him: Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who continued to hold rallies and media addresses for the second consecutive day after securing interim bail from the Supreme Court,  further stoked the controversy on Sunday on the cut-off age for retirement in the BJP, saying PM Narendra Modi was maintaining radio silence if he will follow the 75-year-rule set for other leaders in his party who either couldn’t contest or left politics in the saffron outfit.

“Many leaders of the BJP have come to defend Modi, saying that this rule of retirement over the age of 75 doesn’t apply to him. The PM himself has said nothing over it yet, and I think he will not refrain from applying this rule to himself while he applied for Advani Ji for sure,” he added. Kejriwal asserted that Modi must share with this country his successor, or at least his party members, if he considers them as Modi ka Parivaar, in a sarcastic jibe at him.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s social media team and its party’s senior leaders dug out past speeches by Shah and BJP leaders including then Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel on the 75-year-retirement age row. While Patel, in a video message, had cited her age as a reason to discontinue as chief minister, Shah had made similar claims to buttress support for the argument why many BJP leaders were denied Lok Sabha tickets in 2019 at a press conference.

Kejriwal continued to attack Modi, accusing him as an insecure leader who got rid of most of his party colleagues like Lal Krishna Advani, Yashwant Sinha, Sumitra Mahajan, Murli Manohar Joshi at Centre and Shivraj Chauhan, Raman Singh, and Vasundhara Raje in states after last year’s poll victories in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh which BJP had won. Chauhan, Raje, and Singh are all younger than Modi and had served as CMs in their states when Modi was not even the Prime minister, added Kejriwal.

“So why this discrimination with them? And we all know what he wants to do next and with whom?” said Kejriwal, seeking a reply from the crowd. “If the BJP comes to power again, the first thing PM Modi will do is change Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,” he reiterated.
