The decision of a group of female cops to take out some time from their hectic duty schedule for a quick dance session inside the police control room seems to have not gone down well with senior police officials in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Senior district police officers have taken a stern view of the dance video which has now gone viral on social media platforms.

The video shows a group of six policewomen dancing in civilian clothes to the tunes of folk songs, with computers and other equipment visible in the background. It was said to be shot on Diwali last week.

The 10-second video opens with five women, clad in salwar-kurta, celebrating while another woman, who apparently shot it, joins them later.

Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar has ordered an internal inquiry into the incident and asked the superintendent of police (SP) (Crime) Visakha Ashok to file a report.

Speaking to The New Indian, a police officer in the know of the matter said there was nothing objectionable to women cops dancing on duty.

“Police personnel work in a very stressful environment on a daily basis and deal with numerous complaints and crime throughout the day. There is nothing wrong if they take out some time for some recreational activity,” said a policeman on the condition of anonymity.

A female, who also does not wish to be named, said the incident should not be considered “indiscipline”.

“What is wrong if some people danced for the sake of some enjoyment, that too on a festival day?” she asked.
