“Kindly forgive me, mother,” he wrote in a suicide note
NALANDA: In a heart-wrenching incident that highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues, a 25-year-old auto-rickshaw driver has died by suicide due to his perceived lack of physical attractiveness.
In a poignant suicide note, Vijay Kumar, also known as Raju, expressed deep embarrassment and dissatisfaction with his facial features and hair, leading him to believe that ending his life was the only solution.
He hanged himself at his sister’s residence in Pachasa village, located in the Bhagan Bigha police jurisdiction in Nalanda district. Raju hailed from Ekanagardeeh village.
“My face and hair are responsible for my death. I am embarrassed with my appearance. I feel I look very bad. This is why I have decided to end my life. If possible, kindly forgive me, mother — your Raju,” he wrote in the suicide note.
His elder brother, Pramod Kumar, revealed to the media that Raju constantly lamented the fact that he had never undergone facial surgery, believing it would have made him more physically attractive. These thoughts of inadequacy led him down a path of despair and self-blame.
Pramod further disclosed that Vijay had been struggling with unstable mental health and was receiving treatment at the prestigious RIIMS in Ranchi. “He suffered from insomnia. On days when he could get sufficient sleep, he appeared fine, but the problem would often worsen,” he said.
Seeking solace and support from his family, Vijay had arrived in Pachasa village just three days prior, seeking comfort in the presence of his elder sister, Babita Devi.
However, tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when Vijay’s nephew discovered that he had taken his own life by hanging himself.
As the youngest among his siblings, Vijay had dreams of love and companionship, with discussions about his marriage prospects actively taking place within the family. Known for his diligence and hard work, he earned a living as a rickshaw driver, supporting his family with unwavering dedication.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a thorough investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Vijay’s tragic demise.
