NEW DELHI: Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has once again made history by selling out the Rogers Centre in Toronto, becoming the first Punjabi artist to achieve this feat. The concert, part of his Dil-Luminati Tour, was a milestone event, further cementing Diljit’s status as a global music sensation.

Before the concert, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Dosanjh, offering his best wishes. The two shared a warm hug and exchanged greetings with folded hands. Trudeau then interacted with Diljit’s team, sharing a moment of unity and celebration.

“Stopped by the Rogers Centre to wish @diljitdosanjh good luck before his show. Canada is a great country—one where a guy from Punjab can make history and sell out stadiums. Diversity isn’t just our strength. It’s a superpower,” Trudeau posted on social media.

Diljit also shared the moment on his Instagram, posting a video of Trudeau’s visit. “Diversity is Canada’s strength. Prime Minister @justinpjtrudeau came to check out the history in the making: we sold out the Rogers Centre!” he wrote, capturing the excitement and pride of the event.

The concert saw Diljit performing to a packed house, with fans cheering and dancing to hits like “Born to Shine.” His performance at the Rogers Centre is another achievement in his journey towards global dominance, following his historic performance at Coachella 2023 and an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

The singer’s recent success extends beyond music. His Punjabi romantic comedy “Jatt & Juliet 3,” co-starring Neeru Bajwa, has been a box office hit, nearing a global gross collection of Rs 100 crore. Diljit also received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the late singer Amar Singh Chamkila in the biopic directed by Imtiaz Ali.

Despite his achievements, Trudeau’s visit did not go without controversy. The Prime Minister faced backlash on social media for referring to Diljit as “Punjabi” instead of “Indian,” sparking a debate about national and cultural identities.

Nonetheless, fans celebrated Diljit’s breakthrough, flooding social media with praise and support. “Punjabis are making India famous. They are putting them on the map!” one fan commented. Another added, “2024 is the year of unexpected crossovers.”

Diljit Dosanjh’s historic concert at the Rogers Centre is a testament to his growing influence and the power of cultural diversity.
