Diljit Dosanjh’s PR Team: Managing Controversies, Public Support

NEW DELHI: Diljit Dosanjh, the renowned Punjabi singer and actor, has faced several controversies recently, but his PR team has been working diligently to maintain and enhance his public image. Diljit is the heartbeat of today’s generation but the efforts by his PR team have turned potential setbacks into opportunities for growth and connection with his audience.

Diljit’s ability to blend modern sensibilities with cultural roots, along with his engaging personality and positive messaging, makes him a beloved figure among young people. His recent stance on the alcohol song controversy, where he highlighted the double standards in targeting musicians, further showcases his relatability and appeal.

One of the key strategies employed by Dosanjh’s PR team is transparency and by addressing controversies head-on, they have managed to control the narrative. For instance, when the Tamil Nadu government requested that he refrain from singing songs promoting alcohol during his concerts, Dosanjh responded assertively during a live show. He acknowledged the government’s concerns but also highlighted the double standards in targeting musicians while alcohol is widely sold. Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh issued a bold challenge to all state governments across the country.

He proposed that if alcohol consumption is banned nationwide, he would permanently stop singing songs referencing alcohol. This proactive approach helped mitigate negative publicity and reinforced Dosanjh’s image as a responsible and considerate celebrity.

Following his Hyderabad concert, Diljit performed in Ahmedabad, where he refrained from singing any alcohol-themed songs despite not receiving any notice from the Gujarat government. Speaking to the crowd, Diljit explained, “Even today, I won’t sing any song about alcohol. That’s because Gujarat is a dry state.” The singer emphasized that his body of work includes far more devotional songs than tracks referencing alcohol. “I have sung dozens of devotional songs. In the last 10 days alone, I released two devotional tracks, but no one talks about that. Everyone on TV is only focused on “Patiala Peg”,” Diljit remarked.

Social media plays a crucial role in Dosanjh’s PR strategy. His team ensures that his social media presence is engaging and positive. They regularly post updates about his projects, personal life, and philanthropic efforts. In a video reposted on the star’s Instagram Stories, a little girl is trying to listen to the music from the terrace of her home. She says, “Diljit uncle, thoda tez chila do. [Diljit uncle, please scream a little louder.]” The text attached to the video reads, “Diljit uncle, thoda tez chila do. Kuchh sunayi nahi de raha. [Diljit uncle, please scream a little louder. We can’t hear anything.]” After watching the clip, Diljit couldn’t resist offering the girl and her family passes to his concert. Re-sharing the video, he wrote, “Beta come I have tickets for you and your family.”
