Didi Takes Fight With BJP To New Low, Books Tripura CM’s OSD Over DM Act

AGARTALA/NEW DELHI: Tension between BJP and TMC has now escalated further after West Bengal Police registered an FIR against Tripura CM Biplab Dev’s OSD Sanjay Mishra under the disaster management act. This comes three days after visiting leaders of TMC clashed with BJP leaders in Tripura with batons and sticks.

The FIR against Mishra was conveyed to Tripura DGP V S Yadav over an email, asking the CM’s OSD to appear at Narkaldenga  police station in West Bengal. The email from West Bengal doesn’t clarify the nature of crime by Mishra or the allegations except a reference to November 3 incident.

What is even baffling is the fact that Mishra has not visited Kolkata for the last two years or so. Sources said that the summons to Mishra were received on CMO Tripura’s official e-mail. Government of Tripura has written to the investigating officer of the Narkeldanga police station and sought details of the FIR that also contains sections 153B/268/468/469/471/ 500/505 of the Indian Penal Code, read with section 54 of the Disaster Management Act.

“I dont understand what TMC is up to. They send IPAC team to create tension over mosques, then with weapons like sticks and batons to kill and injure BJP workers. Just like they did in West Bengal. Now they book CM’s OSD. Mamata government is touching new lows,” said a BJP leader in Tripura.

Earlier on November 20, the youth wing president of TMC Sayani Ghosh, on a visit to Agartala , had allegedly tried to run over BJP workers along with others.

She was driving a vehicle beyond the prescribed speed limit. She was arrested by the East Agartala women police the next day on charges of attempt to murder. Police officials said they are investigating the case and arrest was made on the basis of preliminary investigation. Political slugfest has touched a new high in Tripura ahead of November 25 municipal polls, more so after the poll strategy firm I-PAC — run by Prashant Kishor — is handling TMC’s election campaigns in Tripura and Goa which go to elections in 2023 and 2022.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had refused to delay the November 25 elections after TMC cited law and order as the problem. The relatively peaceful state has been in the news ever since entry of TMC in the poll fray.

Allegations and counter allegations are bringing TMC and BJP face to face.

Earlier, Ghosh even threatened Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb. However, she was granted bail by the court.

On November 12, BJP supporters were attacked while conducting a door to door campaign in Rajbari area for Dharmanagar Municipal Council election. An FIR has been registered against two TMC supporters, the North Tripura district police officials said.

In another incident that took place on November 16, four TMC workers (not from the state) were arrested by the East Agartala police for allegedly hatching a conspiracy for the polling day. On November 17, BJP supporters were allegedly attacked at Kalitilla.

The Teliamura police have registered an FIR in this connection against five known and 20 unknown TMC supporters. Police have arrested five TMC supporters, while one managed to get bail from the court.

It is worth mentioning here that BJP won 112 out of the total 334 seats uncontested in the last civic body polls in Tripura. For the current elections too, the ruling party is being touted as a big favourite for the win, riding high on the popularity of  Biplab Deb.
