NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar schooled actor and politician Jaya Bachchan when she took offence to him after he announced her name to speak in the house.
An intense exchange unfolded in the Rajya Sabha today on Aug 9, between Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and veteran actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan.
Bachchan accused the Vice President of speaking to her in an “unacceptable” tone and showing disrespect. She said, “I am an artist. I understand facial expressions and body language. Your tone is not acceptable. You may be sitting on the chair, but we are colleagues.”

Chairman Dhankhar, unfazed by the remarks, responded with a subtle dig, drawing an analogy from the world of cinema. “An actor is subject to a director, and you haven’t see what I have seen from here,” he retorted, indicating that his perspective as the presiding officer might differ from that of the members on the floor.
Dhankhar referred to an earlier heated conversation this week with Jaya Bachchan and said that he doesn’t want daily schooling, “Every day I don’t want to do schooling. You are talking about my tone? Enough of it. You may be anybody. You have to understand the decorum. You can be a celebrity, but accept decorum.”
A few days prior, Jaya Bachchan, who is known for her outspoken nature, expressed her discontent on Dhankhar using her husband’s name, Amitabh Bachchan, as part of her official identity in the Rajya Sabha records. She said
