At present, Tehri Lake has only a single boating point, serves serves 99 boats.

With an aim to promote adventure sports, the BJP government is also set to add four more boating points around the famous Tehri Lake in Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand.

Tehri Special Area Tourism Development Authority (TADA), the nodal agency to implement development projects around the lake, has already given its approval for the construction.

The four boating points will be set up at Dobra, Sandra, Tiwargaon, and Tipri, according to authorities.

At present, Tehri Lake has only a single boating point in Koti Colony area, which serves 99 boats carrying tourists on the lake.

A tender for setting up boarding platforms called jetties has also been issued by the Uttarakhand tourism department. The government has also issued licences to boat operators to operate cruise, shikara, and parasailing boats.

Authorities said that many tourists often return without enjoying a boat ride over weekends when people from states and Delhi-NCR throng to Tehri Lake for leisure, due to the non-availability of boats and heavy rush.

For a long time, local boat operators have been seeking more boating points to cater to the growing consumer demand.

Speaking to The New Indian, Tehri Garhwal district magistrate Saurav Gaharwar said, “A survey was conducted to identify suitable places for setting up new boating points. After identification, a report has been sent to higher authorities.”

The district officer for adventurous sports said that small jetties will be established at Tapri and Tiwargaon while cruises and parasailing boats will be operated in Sandara and Dobra.

Licences have been issued for operating one cruise and parasailing boat each.

“The new boating points will not only enable the tourism department to cater to more tourists, but it will also generate employment opportunities for locals,” said DM Gaharwar.

Meanwhile, the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with two private firms to build a ropeway in Yamunotri.
