Devendra Fadnavis has communicated his strong objection to the inclusion of Nawab Malik in the party alliance.
NEW DELHI: In a significant development, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has communicated his strong objection to the inclusion of Nawab Malik in the party alliance. Fadnavis, in a letter addressed to Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, raised serious allegations against Malik, urging caution in allowing him into the Grand Alliance.
In the letter, Fadnavis stated, “Former Minister and Member of Legislative Assembly Nawab Malik visited the legislature area today and participated in its proceedings, exercising his rights as a member of the Vidhan Sabha. I want to clarify that we do not harbour any personal enmity or grudge against him. However, considering the serious allegations levelled against him, we believe it would be inappropriate to include him in the Grand Alliance.”

Highlighting the temporary nature of political power, Fadnavis stressed the importance of prioritising the welfare of the country over political affiliations. “Power comes and goes, but the country’s welfare supersedes power. Currently, out on bail solely on medical grounds, if the accusations against him are disproven, we should extend a welcome. Yet, at present, it is not prudent to incorporate him into the Grand Alliance amidst such allegations. While it remains our prerogative to choose whom to include in our party, the other parties should also consider that it should not disrupt the Grand Alliance, hence our opposition,” he added.
Fadnavis reiterated that Pawar should understand their sentiments and feelings on this matter. “Despite holding a ministerial position, he was arrested over alleged connections with traitors. We do not align with the stance of the then Chief Minister and the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. We cannot support this viewpoint. I trust you will take our sentiments into account,” the letter concluded.

Malik stands accused in a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Following his arrest by the ED in February 2022, he is presently out on medical bail. As of now, Malik has not clarified his affiliation with either the Ajit Pawar faction or the NCP led by Sharad Pawar.
