Democracy In Danger, Says Congress

NEW DELHI: Even as former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is being questioned before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the third consecutive day, the Congress slammed the BJP government at the Centre saying democracy is in danger as constitutional norms are being flouted.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala and Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a press conference at the party headquarters and slammed the Central government.

Speaking at the press conference, Gehlot said, “This is a black chapter of eight years. If one sees these eight years in history, then it will be seen as a black chapter because constitutional norms are flouted and democracy is in danger.” He said that the entire country is very sad and under stress with the recent developments.

Gehlot further said that whatever is happening in the country, he has never seen such a thing. He said that it is Congress that is fighting the Modi government. “But Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have only targeted him (Rahul Gandhi). There was no reason to give him notice, despite the entire issue being crystal clear,” he said.

He also said that it is for the first time that the leaders are not allowed to visit their party office. The kind of atmosphere which is being created, we have to think in which direction our country is going, Gehlot said.

He said, “The ED notice to Rahul Gandhi was sent to target him. The entire country is witnessing it.”

“The kind of approach you have adopted will be very bad for you. People have understood everything and soon you will witness that this approach is murdering democracy,” Gehlot warned the government.

Baghel said that Rahul Gandhi is being harassed as he dared to raise issues that affected the country and its people. Baghel said, “The nationalism of BJP is imported nationalism, whatever is in opposition to that nationalism should be suppressed and crushed.”
