KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien slammed the central government on the suspension of 19 opposition RS MPs on Tuesday.
“More than suspension of MPs, its democracy that has been suspended in India,” O’Brien said as 19 Rajya Sabha MPs from the opposition camp have been suspended for the week to attend the monsoon session of Parliament. The RS MPs were raising slogans against price rise and inflation during the monsoon session of Parliament.
Seven TMC MPs – Sushmita Dev, Mausam Noor, Shanta Chhetri, Dola Sen, Dr Santanu Sen, Nadimul Haque and Abir Ranjan Biswas – were suspended along with RS MPs from other opposition parties including DMK, TRS, CPIM and CPI.
“This suspension of our parliamentarians has been done at the behest of two people, who are used to running the Gujarat Gymkhana in Ahmedabad. They want to apply the same rules of the Gymkhana to the Parliament of India,” O’Brien says to the media.
