Delhi University to count DUSU votes on November 25.

NEW DELHI: The counting of votes for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections 2024-25 has been rescheduled for November 25, 2024. Professor Satyapal Singh, the Chief Election Officer for DUSU elections, announced the new date following a directive from the Delhi High Court.

The court said the counting may proceed on or before Nov 26 if DU was satisfied with the clean-up done by its students. The students’ outfits allegedly defaced walls on DU’s two campuses and MCD and DMRC properties.

Professor Singh clarified that a survey revealed that distortions had not been fully addressed in some areas, and thus, the university took the responsibility of rectifying these issues. As a result, the vote counting will occur on November 25, 2024, at 8 am, in the Conference Center located opposite the Department of Botany in the North Campus.

In addition, all colleges, departments, institutes, and centres of Delhi University have been directed to begin counting the votes within their respective domains on Sunday, November 24, 2024. The morning colleges, departments, institutes, and centres are required to start counting from 8 am, while the evening colleges, departments, institutes, and centres are instructed to begin at 2 pm.

The election results, initially scheduled for September 28, had been delayed due to issues related to defacement that prompted judicial intervention. The elections were held on September 27, 2024, but the disruptions caused by defacement led to the rescheduling of the counting process. The university is now taking necessary steps to clean up these distortions and ensure that the electoral process proceeds smoothly.

The revised counting schedule reflects the university’s efforts to maintain the integrity of the elections and adhere to the court’s orders, ensuring a transparent and fair process for all involved.
