The teacher allegedly made derogatory remarks against Muslims & Islam
NEW DELHI: Amidst the raging debate over the slapping of Muslim students in UP’s Muzaffarnagar, a government school teacher has been accused of targeting Muslim students, insulting their faith in Delhi, and questioning their national identity.
Hima Gulati, the teacher, allegedly made derogatory comments about Islam inside a classroom of the Delhi government school in Kailash Nagar in East Delhi.
As narrated by the sister of a Class IX student, she chose the occasion of Chandrayaan-3’s successful soft-landing on the moon as an opportune time to launch a tirade against Islam. “On that day, she started discussing about Deen (religion). She said Muslims and their kids did not participate in the freedom struggle, they have no contribution to India’s independence,” his sister recounted.

The student alleged that the teacher made objectionable remarks about Mecca, the holiest place in Islam.
“She likened Mecca to darkness and passed remarks associating Muslims with animal sacrifice and violence. All of this was openly discussed within the school premises. One wonders what sort of educators promote such divisive narratives among impressionable young minds,” said the child.
The allegations were reiterated by several other children from the same class.
“She said: ‘You kill and eat innocent animals, how will you feel if someone cuts you like that?’” another student quoted her as saying.

Another student claimed that the teacher sought to upload the supremacy of the Gita over the Quran. “She further said that you people are not Indians, you did not fight for independence.”
Delhi Police have registered an FIR at the Gandhi Nagar police station. Authorities have sent the child for counselling.
Recently, several instances of religious discrimination have come to the fore.
A few days back, a female teacher pejoratively talked about “Mohammedan children” and ordered students to slap a Muslim child one by one for making a mistake in table multiplication in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
On August 27, a Class X student from Kathua, Jammu had to be hospitalized because he was beaten by his Muslim principal for writing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on the board.
