NEW DELHI: With western disturbance approaching northern parts of India, heatwave conditions in Delhi and the neighbouring states are likely to reduce significantly in intensity from Monday onwards.
Along with Delhi, people in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and north Rajasthan can also expect persistent cloudy weather.
RK Jenamani, senior scientist, India Meteorological Department told The New Indian, “The latest western disturbance has started affecting the region of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and north Rajasthan will be persistently cloudy along with Western Himalaya. The temperature has already fallen by 3 to 5° Celsius and will fall within 44 degrees. Only isolated heat will be there. Today we have downgraded the colour alert to yellow and from tomorrow onwards there will be no heatwave.”
“There is a prediction of dust storm and thunderstorm over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP and MP from today. The monsoon has already advanced over the Andaman sea and the southeast Bay of Bengal as good rainfall followed in Andaman and Nicobar islands. Kerala and Karnataka are receiving good rainfall because of the pre-monsoon system that will arrive on May 27,” he added.
IMD also observes that the Southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of the south Bay of Bengal, most parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea today.
Isolated, heavy to very heavy falls are likely over Kerala, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Assam and Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh during the next four-five days.
