NEW DELHI: In a decisive strike against narcotics trade, the Cyber Unit of Delhi Policeโ€™s Crime Branch has apprehended a 50-year-old woman, Meera alias Ritu, from Bhopura, Uttar Pradesh, for her alleged role in a sprawling inter-state drug trafficking network.

Law enforcement seized 100 grams of high-purity heroin, valued at โ‚น20 lakh in the global market, from her possession.

The operation, conducted over 20 days, aimed at curbing the rising menace of drug distribution across Delhi-NCR. Earlier, on February 20, police arrested Arun (36), a major supplier from Nand Nagari, Delhi, confiscating 601 grams of heroin. Meera, identified as his accomplice, allegedly sourced drugs from Arun and distributed them in Sundar Nagari, Nand Nagari, and DLF Bhopura.

Based on intelligence inputs, a special squad led by Inspector Rajeev Singh, under the guidance of ACP Rohan Malhotra and DCP Kunal Sharma, raided Meeraโ€™s hideout. Authorities disclosed that she joined the cartel in 2024, drawn in by promises of substantial earnings from Arun. To penetrate drug-infested zones, undercover officers posed as street vendors, leading to the successful bust.

DCP Kunal Sharma stated, โ€œThis cartel exploited vulnerable communities and even targeted foreign nationals, tarnishing Indiaโ€™s global image. Our forces remain steadfast in dismantling such syndicates.โ€

Originally from Delhi, Meera discontinued her studies after Class 12 and tied the knot in 2015. Struggling with financial hardships, she turned to drug trafficking, discreetly selling heroin in small sachets (pudiyas) across multiple neighborhoods.

The Crime Branch has launched further investigations into the broader inter-state supply network. Authorities reaffirm their commitment to eradicating narcotics trade under the nationwide anti-drug initiative.
