NEW DELHI: A fake website cheating innocent people in the guise of offering discounted travel tickets online has been busted by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police Special Cell with arrest of an accused.
Aviral Rawal, 33, a resident of Sector-4 of Dwarka has been arrested for conning many people.
IFSO had registered a case on the basis of the complaint filed by one Yogendra Shah, in which he alleged that the fraudsters had made a fake website www.travelook.in and conned more than 90 people on the pretext of booking flight.
During the probe, the police performed technical examinations of the domain and also tracked the financial trail. “Bank statements of victims were examined and it was discovered that transactions were credited to the account of ‘Wing In Travel Advisory private limited,” it said.
After analysis of victims’ bank accounts, the police discovered that payments were sent to many recipients concurrently.
“Further through the financial trail, it was found that the alleged persons were using the facility of Google Search Engine Optimization and their website was being displayed on top of the search results,” the police said.
After a brief investigation, tracking digital footprints, and manual surveillance, the suspect was identified as Aviral Rawal and arrested following a raid in Gurugram.
During the interrogation, Rawal revealed that he mailed to the customers that the ticket could not be processed and would be refunded within 4-5 working days, but never refunded money to anyone.
Rawal had completed a BBA course and spent some time working pursuing an MBA degree, the police said, adding that he started Wing In Travel Advisory Private Limited in 2017.
