New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested Rizwan Ali, a terrorist affiliated with an ISIS module, just ahead of Independence Day.
Rizwan, a resident of Daryaganj in Delhi, was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which had announced a reward of ₹3 lakh for his capture.
The Delhi Police is currently interrogating Rizwan following his arrest. Sources indicate that he was an expert in bomb-making, particularly improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and had conducted reconnaissance of VIP areas in the capital for potential terrorist activities.
“He is highly radicalized and was found in possession of weapons. We have informed the NIA about his arrest,” said a source.
A team from the NIA is expected to visit the Special Cell office of the Delhi Police, and there is a possibility that Rizwan may be handed over to them.
“We have averted a major terrorist attack ahead of Independence Day. We are currently interrogating him,” the source added.
In 2018, Rizwan was detained by the police for questioning but managed to escape and had been on the run since then. Subsequently, the NIA declared a reward of ₹3 lakh for information leading to his capture.
