NEW DELHI: In order to enhance the commuting experience on the metro, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated a comprehensive encroachment removal drive at Lal Quila and Chandni Chowk metro stations.

According to DMRC officials, commuters have been facing difficulties while entering or exiting these metro stations due to encroachments. The encroachment removal drive will be ongoing until June 17.

DMRC has stated that similar special drives will be conducted at other metro stations in the coming days to ensure passenger convenience.

This particular encroachment removal drive is specifically targeting Gate No. I and Gate No. 2 at Lal Quila and Gate No. 5 at Chandni Chowk Metro Stations on a daily basis.

The drive is being coordinated with various other concerned agencies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Police.

DMRC officials have highlighted that unauthorized establishments such as street vendors, selling carts, rickshaws, and other encroachments outside metro stations have been causing inconvenience to passengers at these locations. The encroachment removal drive aims to alleviate these inconveniences.

DMRC has also been regularly communicating with the concerned agencies regarding these issues, it said in a release.

Last month, DMRC undertook a special drive at 11 metro stations to clear pedestrian pathways from vendors, encroachers, and unauthorized hindrances caused by e-rickshaws and autos.

DMRC places significant emphasis on maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and disciplined commuter behavior within the Delhi Metro premises.

These ongoing drives now extend to ensure that the areas outside the stations are also free from any form of encroachments.
