NEW DELHI: A day after the Arvind Kejriwal government decided to roll back the contentious Delhi Excise Policy, it extended the licence of existing liquor vendors for one month from Monday.

The government will enforce the old liquor policy from September 1.

Earlier, it was said that the license of the existing liquor vendors will expire on July 31, which led to huge crowding at liquor shops.

Sources in the office of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that the Delhi Excise Police 2021-22 could not “achieve the desired objectives of fetching greater revenues as envisaged”, adding that many issues were flagged.

The source said that the government will implement the old liquor policy for six months from September 1.

“In this regard, considering the tenure of existing licences, expiring on July 31 and to maintain the confidence of people at large in the administration, the Delhi government has extended the existing licenses for a month till August 31 for the transition to take effect,” the source added.
