NEW DELHI : Senior politicians, including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Parvesh Verma, convened on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma. The gathering was marked by heartfelt tributes, reflections on his contributions, and a collective promise to carry forward his developmental aspirations for the city.
Parvesh Verma, son of the late leader, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing his father’s unfinished projects. “Nearly three decades ago, Delhi embarked on a transformative path under BJP leadership. However, political conflicts hindered progress. Today, we stand resolute in fulfilling his dream of a Viksit Delhi (Developed Delhi),” Verma declared after performing a sacred havan at Swabhiman Sthal.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing Sahib Singh Verma’s lasting influence. “The large turnout today is a testament to his immense impact. Under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta and Minister Parvesh Verma, pending projects at Swabhiman Sthal and other key locations will be accelerated to honor his vision,” Mishra stated.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, accompanied by ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ashish Sood, and several other dignitaries, laid floral wreaths at the memorial ceremony, reinforcing their commitment to his ideals.
A Legacy of Public Service
Born on March 15, 1943, in Mundka Village to a farming family, Sahib Singh Verma started his political journey as a grassroots activist with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He entered public office in 1977 as a municipal representative under the Janata Party banner before rising to serve as Delhi’s Chief Minister in 1996. His tenure, which lasted over two years, was marked by initiatives aimed at strengthening the city’s infrastructure and governance.
The commemoration highlighted bipartisan recognition of his contributions, with present-day leaders vowing to address developmental challenges and fulfill his vision for Delhi’s progress.
