NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has taken a stern stance against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government, saying it deliberately delayed the tabling of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports.
A single-judge bench of Justice Sachin Datta expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s actions, stating that the delay in forwarding the reports to the Speaker and initiating a discussion in the Assembly appeared to be a deliberate move to postpone the Assembly session. “The way you have dragged your feet raises doubts about your bona fides,” Justice Datta remarked.

The court also highlighted concerns regarding the government’s handling of the reports, noting that the delay in sending them to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena reflected poorly on the government’s intentions.
During the proceedings, the AAP government questioned the practicality of convening an Assembly session with elections around the corner. Previously, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat argued that presenting the reports would be futile since the Assembly’s tenure ends in February. This was stated in response to a plea by seven BJP MLAs demanding the tabling of the reports.

The High Court has scheduled a detailed hearing on the matter for 2:30 PM on Monday. Meanwhile, BJP legislators have moved a plea for a special session of the legislative assembly to ensure the CAG reports are tabled promptly.
