NEW DELHI : Zomato, the prominent food delivery platform, has been summoned by a court in Delhi following allegations of deceptive practices in its delivery operations.The court is responding to a civil suit filed by a Gurugram resident, raising concerns about the companyโs handling of food orders from reputed eateries across the national capital.
The case, brought forth by Sourav Mall, revolves around Zomatoโs โDilli ke Legendsโ sub-category, which promises customers access to โhot and authentic foodโ from renowned restaurants in Delhi. Mall alleges that Zomato is engaging in fraudulent practices by delivering food from undisclosed locations rather than the advertised restaurants.

Civil Judge Umesh Kumar, presiding over the case, recently issued an order summoning Zomato and initiating legal proceedings. โIssue summons of the suit and notice of application,โ the judge decreed.
Mallโs grievance stems from an incident last October when he placed orders from three different eateries in Jama Masjid, Kailash Colony, and Jangpura. Upon tracking the delivery, the Mall purportedly discovered that the food was sourced from unidentified locations, raising doubts about its authenticity and freshness.
The plea filed by Mall questions the transparency of Zomatoโs operations, highlighting the absence of original packaging from the partner restaurants and casting doubt on whether the claimed establishments prepared the food. โSuch representation to users, customers, or patrons of Zomato, is indeed intended to deceive the public at large,โ the plea states.

Furthermore, Mallโs plea raises concerns about the swift delivery of food from Delhiโs iconic restaurants to locations as distant as Gurugram and Noida within a concise timeframe of 30 minutes, terming it โinexplicable.โ
The court has scheduled further proceedings for March 20. Zomato hasnโt responded to these allegations.
