NEW DELHI: In anticipation of the Ministry of Law and Justice forming an eight-member committee to explore the feasibility of simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly elections, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wasted no time to mock the Modi government’s proposal on Sunday.

Taking to X, Arvind Kejriwal questioned the government’s priorities as the names of the members on the High-Level Committee were unveiled on Saturday. He pondered, “What will common man gain from One Nation, One Election?”. Highlighting his party’s vision and unwavering commitment, Kejriwal placed the welfare of all citizens at the forefront. This tweet comes days after the 3rd meeting of the I.N.D.I.A alliance at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Mumbai, which AAP is a part of. Arvind kejriwal had participated in the meeting on Thursday.

The AAP supremo highlighted the disconnect between the Centre’s focus on “One Nation, One Poll” and the genuine needs of the common people. Kejriwal emphasised that what the common folks truly require is access to quality education and healthcare, asserting that these are more essential than a synchronized election calendar.

In another tweet, he drew a pointed contrast between the Bharatiya Janata Party’s promise to establish “5-star district party offices” and AAP’s pledge to establish exceptional schools and mohalla clinics in every village and locality across the nation.

One nation-one poll was one of the key manifesto promises of the BJP in 2014. The BJP has so far fulfilled most of its poll promises including the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A besides tabling contentious bills of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) after coming into power with a landslide victory in 2019. The saffron party had come to power with a tally of 303 Lok Sabha seats, beating its own figure of 282 seats in 2014.

The committee includes, former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind as the chairperson, Union home minister Amit Shah, along with other constitutional experts.
