DEHRADUN: The district administration and the Uttarakhand state education department launched an investigation after a school administration in Dehradun decided to proclaim Friday a half-day holiday.

The decision led to an uproar among guardians and parents of the students of Bright Angel Senior Secondary Public School in Dehradun’s Vikasnagar.

Speaking to The New Indian, block education officer VP Singh said, “An inquiry has been ordered in the matter. We will submit our report to higher authorities of the department for further action.”

Religious groups and seers also protested against the move. Swami Prabodhanand Giri from Hindu Raksha Sena also travelled to Vikasnagar from Haridwar protesting against the decision.

“This is not a school but a factory of jihadis. This man should be arrested and sent to jail. We all witnessed what happened in Rajasthan. That can happen here also,” said Prabodhanand.

Parents and guardians objected to this order and approached the police and district administration along with the diaries of their children as proof.

Lt Col (Retd) Qadir Hussain, owner of the school, tendered a written apology informing the parents, guardians and administration about the withdrawal of the order.

“This is all rumour mongering. It is not what it looks like and is a result of what has been going on in the country. Our school gives the best performance in the area. This year too our CBSE results are 97%. Imagine if this can happen to an ex-Indian Army officer, what would happen to a common person,” said Lt Col (retd) Hussain.
