Deep Sidhu, a Punjabi actor and one of the prime accused in the Red Fort violence case died in a road accident on Tuesday evening. The accident took place around 8.30 pm near Pipli toll plaza in Kharkhoda area of Sonipat district.

Haryana Police said that the crash site was  nearly 30 km from the Singhu border, the centre of last year’s farmer protests in which Sidhu was deeply involved. Sidhu sustained grave injuries and died while being taken to the hospital. Reena, his woman friend who was traveling with him when the accident took place, has sustained injuries and has been admitted at Sonipat civil hospital.

Sidhu’s body has been sent to the Sonipat Civil Hospital where autopsy will be conducted on Wednesday. It may be noted that Deep Sidhu had once issued a statement to reveal the secrets of farmer leaders involved in farmers’ protests. Sidhu was booked by Delhi Police as one of the prime accused in the Red Fort violence that had taken place on January 26, 2021. He was arrested by Delhi Police and was lodged in Tihar Jail for many months before he was released on bail.

Sidhu was very vocal against the farm laws and his arrest was made on the grounds that he had instigated the farmers during tractor rally.

Sidhu had also created his image of an activist in Punjab and had emerged as a youth leader. Sidhu had denied his involvement in instigating the farmers. “I had just warned our leaders that these decisions are against the sentiments of the youth” he had then said.

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi extends condolences over the “unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist Deep Sidhu”.

SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal paid sincere condolences, tweeted “The untimely demise of Punjabi actor and activist #DeepSidhu has come as a shock to his admirers and the entire film fraternity. The lawyer turned artiste from Muktsar was an inspiration for many. Sincere condolences to his family and prayers for the departed soul.”
