NEW DELHI: Willowbrook, a suburban town located approximately 20 miles northwest of Chicago, was struck by a devastating mass shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident occurred in a parking lot within a strip mall, leaving at least 20 individuals shot and one fatally wounded. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, transporting 12 injured victims to local hospitals.
“The mass shooting took place in a parking lot in a strip mall in the town of Willowbrook shortly before 12.30 am,” Battalion Chief Joe Ostrander from the Tri-State Fire Protection District provided details of the tragic event, as he spoke to WGN, a Chicago-area news station.
Witnesses reported the sudden eruption of gunfire, shattering what was meant to be a joyful gathering. “It was supposed to be like a Juneteenth celebration. We just started hearing shooting, so we dropped down,” a witness told WGN.
