DHARAMSHALA: After spending most of the time at his residence since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will be visiting Ladakh between July and August this year, as per his office.

The 14th Dalai Lama agreed to the visit to the Union Territory to a request by senior monks from Ladakh’s Thiksay Monastery, Thiksay Rinpoche Thupten Tsewang during a meeting here on Monday.

Tsewang is the president of Ladakh Buddhist Association.

This would be the Dalai Lama’s first outing since the emergence of the pandemic, said Tsewang, a former Tibetan parliamentarian, adding that his follower in Ladakh will be delighted by his visit.

This would also be his first visit since the Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops in 2020.

Since the COVID outbreak, the Dalai Lama has only granted virtual and in-person audiences at his residence in Dharamshala.
