SRINAGAR: Uber has introduced its Shikara booking services on the serene Dal Lake in Srinagar, pioneering a blend of eco-tourism and digital convenience in Jammu and Kashmir. This innovative initiative merges the timeless charm of Kashmiri Shikaras with cutting-edge technology, enabling tourists and locals to reserve these iconic rides through the Uber app.

 

Designed to promote hassle-free travel, the service offers affordable access to Dal Lake, one of the region’s most cherished attractions. Safety features, along with digital payment options, ensure a secure and seamless experience for riders.

 

 

Beyond enhancing tourist experiences, this collaboration supports local shikara operators by providing a sustainable income source and promoting eco-friendly tourism. It reflects Uber’s dedication to community involvement and cultural preservation.

 

Wali Mohd Bhat, President of the Shikara Association told The New Indian, “This online system resolves previous complaints about pricing, ensuring fairness and convenience for all,” he said.

 

 

Abdul Rahim, a houseboat owner, emphasized the cultural significance of Shikara rides, calling them an unmissable part of any Kashmir trip. “These rides now prioritize comfort and accessibility for our guests, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone,” he added.

Tourists also welcomed the innovation.
