Head Constable Vishal Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Niran Jan Singh were critically injured after terrorists fired upon them in the busy Maisuma area of Srinagar on Monday evening. Vishal later succumbed to his injuries and Singh was being treated at a hospital.

Police said that terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on a CRPF party, leaving the duo critically injured. They were shifted to a hospital and one of them was declared brought dead, it said.

A cordon and search operation was launched in the area, the police said. The attack created panic in Maisuma and nearby Lal Chowk and people rushed to safer places.

In Shopian, police said, terrorists fired at a civilian identified as Sonu Kumur Baljee, son of Jankee Nath in Chotigam area of Shopian, adding that he was rushed to the district hospital Shopian for treatment while the area was cordoned off.

Earlier in the day, two non-local labourers were fired upon in Lajroo area of Pulwama. “Terrorists fired upon two labourers identified as Patleshwar Kumar and Jakku Chaudhary, residents of Bihar in Lajoora area of Pulwama,” police said.
