Court Sends Sena Leader Raut To Judicial Custody Till Aug 22

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Patra Chawl Scam case, was sent to judicial custody till August 22 by a local court in Mumbai.

Raut, who was arrested on July 31 by the ED after searches at his two homes in Mumbai and hours of questioning, was produced before the court after the end of ED custody.

The court then sent the Rajya Sabha MP to 14 days of judicial custody and also allowed all medicines to be delivered to him.

Raut, who is also the Shiv Sena’s spokesperson, was initially detained for four days until August 4.He was once again sent to ED custody till August 8 in connection with the case.

The ED had alleged that Raut had got ₹1 crore as proceeds of crime in the Patra Chawl scam case.

The ED alleged that proceeds of crime of ₹1 crore untainted property were invested in acquiring assets and during the redevelopment project of Patra Chawal, Raut, also during the period 2010-11 onwards, purchased 10 land parcels under eight agreements situated at Kihim beach, Alibaug.

The ED also questioned his wife, Varsha Raut, on Saturday for several hours.

The financial probe agency had earlier attached property worth ₹9 crore related to Raut’s ‘aide’ Pravin Raut and assets, worth around ₹2 crore, belonging to his wife Varsha in the ₹1,034 crore Patra Chawl land scam case.

The financial probe agency had filed a charge sheet in a money laundering case against Pravin Raut.
