NEW DELHI: In a move to recreate Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Tilak Swaraj Fund’, the Congress party introduced the ‘Donate for Desh’ online crowdfunding campaign for a more equitably resourced and opportunity-rich India.

On the 138th anniversary of the Grand Old Party, through the inaugural campaign, ‘Donate for Behtar Bharat,’ the party has invited supporters to contribute in multiples of Rs 138, to celebrate their century-old legacy.

The campaign is slated to be inaugurated by party President Mallikarjun Kharge on December 18 in the national capital. Simultaneously, the donation links will go live, signalling the commencement of the initiative.

To facilitate donations, two dedicated channels have been established. One of them is a dedicated online portal (donateinc.in) and the other is the official Congress website (www.inc.in).

Calling upon all Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs to amplify awareness through press conferences and social media, the campaign will primarily operate online until December 28—the party’s foundation day.

Subsequently, ground campaigns will be initiated, including door-to-door visits by volunteers. The aim is to target a minimum of ten houses in every booth, seeking contributions of at least Rs 138 from each household.

In a bid to bolster the campaign, state-level office bearers, elected representatives, District Congress Committee (DCC) Presidents, PCC Presidents, and All India Congress Committee (AICC) office bearers have been urged to contribute at least Rs 1,380 each.

To ensure the campaign’s efficacy, PCC presidents have been tasked with identifying potential donors among party affiliates and functionaries, with a target of contributions of either Rs 1,380 or Rs 13,800.
