PM Narendra Modi's traditional Himachali dress was full of symbolism

While Prime minister Narendra Modi’s Chola Dora has created a flutter with its symbolic significance, Congress, on the other hand, expressed disappointment over the handwoven dress.

The Congress argued that PM Modi hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and disrespected the principles of Sanatana dharma.

Ganesh Godiyal, a senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Congress President, stated that the ‘swastika,’ a Hindu religious symbol, is supposed to be on the forehead, but it was stitched on the back side of PM Modi’s dress making it objectionable.

Godiyal also dismissed the Himachali traditional dress worn by PM Modi as merely a stunt to draw people’s attention to him.

During his visit, PM Modi wore a special traditional dress made by the women of Himachal’s Chamba, popularly known as Chola Dora. The dress is embroidered with the Hindu religious symbols of ‘swastika’ and peacock feather, which is believed to be the favourite of Lord Krishna.

PM Modi is currently on a two-day visit to the holy shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath, where he is scheduled to inaugurate projects worth over ₹3,400 crores and review the progress of other ongoing projects under development. The Prime Minister also visited the samadhi of Adi Sankaracharya.

After performing puja at the Kedarnath temple, PM Modi inaugurated a slew of projects, including laying the foundation stone of the nearly 10-km-long Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway project, which is touted to be the longest ropeway in the world at an altitude of 11,500 feet.

Following that, PM Modi reached the Badrinath shrine, where he offered prayers and took a look at the ongoing projects. He is also scheduled to visit Maani Ghati, where he will greet the jawans of the Indian Army.

In his address, Congress leader Ganesh Godiyal also accused the centre of remaining silent on the recent Ankita murder case and demanded a CBI probe to look into the matter.
