Congress Tears Into Azad, Calls His DNA Modi-fied

Hours after veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned and attacked the party, several party leaders dubbed his action as “unfortunate” and slammed him saying his DNA has been modi-fied.

“A man who has been treated with the greatest respect by the Congress leadership has betrayed it with his vicious personal attacks, which reveal his true character. GNA’s DNA has been modi-fied,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, Ramesh said, “We have read the letter of Azad that has been released to the media. It is most unfortunate that this has happened at a time when Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and the entire party organisation are involved in fighting the BJP on public issues of inflation, unemployment and polarization. It happened when final preparations were being made for the Mehangai par Hallo Bol rally in New Delhi on September 4 and for the launch of the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari on September 7.”

Even Congress general secretary, Ajay Maken described his resignation as unfortunate and said, “It is unfortunate that when Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi along with party workers are raising the issue of inflation, unemployment and others and also planned a rally on September 4 in Delhi and Bharat Jodo Yatra from September 7 over inflation, polarization and unemployment taking a direct fight with the BJP and such time Azad decided to resign and leave Congress.”

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Tariq Anwar, speaking to The New Indian, said, “It is unfortunate and it was not expected from Azadji. Whatever his complaints are of not being heard and being ignored is not correct as he is one of those people who has played the longest innings in the party since 1975.”

Anwar, who also joined the Congress in 1975 in Bihar, said, “There is no such important organisational post he has not held. And it is also not necessary that his suggestions will be taken every time. Congress is a democratic party and the second line of leadership is coming, so the party has to take up everyone.”

“The existence of the party will be saved when the second line of leadership is given importance. And if Rahul Gandhi is making a new team, then everyone must accept this,” the Congress leader said.

On another question, Azad attacked Rahul Gandhi in his resignation as leader, Anwar said: “There was no need to attack. And a person like him should not have done so as he had held several posts in the party and had been on the advisory committee and several other important functions.”

At the same time, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera also launched a scathing attack on Azad saying, “When his Rajya Sabha term got over, he got restless. He should know what the general Congress workers feel. Party workers know that the man who betrays the party at this time, his remote control is in the hands of Narendra Modi. We have seen their love in Parliament and that has been exposed today.”
