NEW DELHI: It appears the Congress is not taking chances with its CM candidate probable in Punjab. The Congress on Sunday released its third list of eight candidates, including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi from the second seat of Bhadaur assembly constituency.
Earlier Congress had announced that Channi would be fighting from Chamkaur Sahib assembly seat.
The list also included the names of Sukhpal Singh Bhullar from Khem Karan assembly seat, Satbir Singh Saini Balichki from Nawan Sahar, Ishwarjot Singh Cheema from Ludhiana South, Vishnu Sharma from Patiala.
According to sources, Aditi Singh’s husband, Angad Singh was considered a strong candidate figure from Nawan Shahr. His ticket is rumoured to have been cut in favour of Balichki as a fallout of her resignation from the party in UP.
The party also named Tarsem Singh Saikia from Attari, Mohan Singh Philanwala from Jalalabad and Manish Bansal from Barnala assembly seat.
The elections for 117 member Punjab assembly is scheduled on February 20 in a single phase.
The elections were earlier scheduled on February 14, however, after representations from all political parties polls were rescheduled.
The ruling Congress is eyeing a comeback in the polls, while the AAP is also goving a tough fight in the assembly polls.
