Congress, Opposition Parties Protest Over Inflation, Price Rise

NEW DELHI: Congress, along with other opposition parties, staged a protest in Parliament over the issue of inflation and price rise on the third day of the Monsoon Session on Wednesday.

The Congress MPs were also joined by other opposition parties.

The Opposition MPs also demanded the government withdraw the goods and services tax (GST) implemented on packaged food products, which came into force on July 18.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on Monday and it will conclude on August 13.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm following the sloganeering by the Congress and opposition MPs.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter and wrote, “This morning in the Rajya Sabha the Opposition led by the Congress demanded an URGENT debate on price rise and senseless GST rates on food items. This was denied. The House was adjourned till 2 pm. Modi Sarkar’s obstinacy continues. Business in Parliament is suffering.”

Even Congress Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore in a tweet said, “Minister Smriti Iraniji, kindly tell sahib (Modi) to allow the Loksabha to accept for the discussion on lpg pricehike which a is favourite subject for you when you were in opposition. Kindly leave arrogance and allow Loksabha to discuss the people issues. Pl dnt divert from real issue (sic).”

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is all set to be stormy as Congress has cleared its stand on the government’s Agnipath scheme, unemployment, price rise, inflation and LAC issue with China among several others.
