NEW DELHI: In a significant political development, the lone legislator of Congress in West Bengal has joined the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) with the aim to “fight the BJP”. Bayron Biswas, the INC MLA representing Sagardighi constituency in the minority-dominated region of Murshidabad, was welcomed into the TMC fold by Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the party, at a gathering in Paschim Medinipur district on Monday.

Expressing his reasons for the switch, Biswas stated that he was unable to fulfill his duties as an MLA while being associated with Congress. He emphasized his commitment to work for the welfare of the people now that he has joined the Trinamool Congress. “I will be more committed to working for the benefit of the people now that I have joined Trinamool Congress,” Biswas told the media.

“I was unable to discharge my duties while being in Congress. I was unable to serve the people of Sagardighi as I had expected. Hence, I have taken the decision of joining the best party i.e. Trinamool Congress,” the Sagardighi legislator added.

Abhishek Banerjee, sharing the stage with Biswas, expressed his delight at the joining and welcomed him warmly.

Biswas, a prominent bidi businessman, played a crucial role in the party’s strategy for the upcoming panchayat polls.

Responding to the development, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the President of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, urged party workers not to be concerned about the recent shift, asserting that Congress is moving forward in the state and will focus on honest individuals while distributing tickets.

“Earlier TMC complained that BJP Congress and CPM jointly helped Bayron Biswas win, why are they speaking in a different tone today? TMC does not have the ability to accept people’s verdict. TMC Leader tries to win by squashing people’s verdict. The game she (Mamata Banerjee) is indulged in will destroy her one day.”

“Would ask Congress workers not to worry about this recent shift (of Biswas). Congress is marching ahead in west bengal and we need not to concentrate on who is coming and who is leaving. In the coming days we will give tickets to people who are honest. Congress will destroy TMC in west bengal,” says Chowdhury.

He predicted that Congress would defeat the TMC in West Bengal.

With his move to the TMC, Biswas expressed confidence in the party’s ability to effectively counter the growing influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. The Sagardighi constituency, known for its significant minority population, has traditionally been a stronghold for the Congress party. Biswas’ decision to join the TMC is seen as a strategic move aimed at consolidating support from minority communities, considering the TMC’s track record of advocating for their interests.
